You know what I don't get?
In all the memoirs and documentary stuff I've read, it seems that in order to really ENJOY traveling abroad, copious amounts of drugs are necessary. Also, everyone smokes pot.
Since I am very, very 420 UNFRIENDLY, this might eventually be a problem.

I will not be posting in my livejournal anymore, since my dad has decided that invading my privacy is an acceptable action. I will however continue to check it, as I value the friends I have made through livejournal. I may at some point create a new journal, but probably not for quite a while.
This is highly appropriate.

I am very amused right now.
Observe the coincidence!

Ganondorf, the final boss in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (which I just beat, by the way).

The number 206 is following me.
I'm dead serious, it's weird.
In other news, I'm putting off my midterm, so I'll get back to that now.
Edit: Just thought I should mention that I'm going out with a boy on Saturday. To the movies. *runs away again*

Will someone please smack me upside the head next time I decide it's a good idea to put off drawing projects? They're done, but sheesh.

I'm so warm...
I feel like I've been chilled to the bone for months, and now it's gorgeous and sunny outside, with a nice light breeze.
I think I will find out later tonight if I can get wireless from the balconies. That would be fantastic - we have one that faces west, so I can get the last of the sun after work.
I need a picture icon without a winter hat!

Wednesday...
Work in the morning of course, but with an additional surprise! We had a fire alarm go off at about 11:30 in the PUB. It was very... fun. We have fire suppressing doors that close when the alarm goes off - one of which cuts off the Smoothie/Espresso stand. I got to shoo people out, while the Barista Lead closed down the till. It was pretty awesome.
I talked to my U. Arch. prof, and I definitely have to take the final. But he's willing to take any significant improvement into consideration, and says that if I score really well on the final, I make squeak out of his class with a 3. something. Bleck. If only I didn't hate his class so much! He's a pretty cool professor though - I'm taking Principles of Archaeology from him next quarter, and when I asked if it was okay to miss a few days thanks to the Northwest Anthropological Conference, he told me he was going too! He's got lots of stories too, and is WAY easy to get off topic. Because ships are simultaneously exciting and boring.
I also talked to the department head after turning in my midterm for Druids. I asked if I needed to make an appointment since she looked so busy, and she said "not if you tell me in 30 seconds or less". So I blurted out "I want to go to the Northwest Anthropological Conference!" and she goes "Oh! Well, we'll be having meetings to figure out transportation pretty soon here, so I'll keep you updated." Translation: I may be carpooling with the Anthropology Department Faculty to Victoria.... O.o

music: AFI
My body hates me.
Insomnia of a great degree - I was up until 5 in the morning, then crashed until 2. Needless to say, I missed my classes today. Also, I woke up and my boss had called me 3 times in 2 minutes, but didn't leave any messages. Weird...
Rachael has been sick as a dog, so I drove her down to the free student clinic. Turns out she has a cold and a sinus infection. We picked up medicine from Safeway, but that took forever! I broke down and bought a case of Mountain Dew, because we're coming up on dead week - the week before finals.
I have major essays to write. For Druids and Primates, I have a take home exam and a 20 page term paper each. Haven't started anything on those, except I know I'll write about Iron Age bog bodies for Druids and cross-species tool use for Primates. For Islam, I have a paper discussing "Islam: What the West Needs to Know", and relating a current issue to the movie. I've chosen honor killings, and delved into the anthropological rationale behind them. Actually pretty interesting, but a bitch to write. And I hate that movie. Underwater Archaeology has that optional final I think I mentioned, but I have to take it. And get a good grade! Maybe I can bargain with the teacher, and have my whole grade rely on that final. That would be amazing...
Rachael and I went to a percussion concert. It was... intense. I've never been to anything like that, and it kind of rattles your bones. If anyone is interested, my two favorite pieces were Rhythm of the Heat by Peter Gabriel (the video has nothing to do with ... anything. Although it's a strange one...) and Trio Por Uno. (that recording sucks, but the performance was amazing, with the guys yelling and going crazy, and... just wow.)
Anyway, now I'm just putting off my essays, so I will return tomorrow!

So, today.
THAT"S RIGHT, I'M CAUGHT UP! For the first time... in like forever.
Work from 10-12. Found out that my boss told my supervisor to figure out who was worth keeping. Scary scary. But I think I'm okay, because my supervisor and I get along well (probably because she's way older than I am. Less intimidation for me, so I'm nicer). The girl who comes in at 11:30 was almost 20 minutes late, so I couldn't leave on time (we leave 10 minutes early when we have class after, because working for the university is nice like that). Then I compounded my late-ness by stopping to chat with Amber (another Anthro major I got to know last quarter in Theory). We're taking Archaeology together too! That will be sweet, she's cool. And we kind of look alike, so we will get a chance to confuse another professor!
We watched a movie in Underwater Archaeology about the USS Somers. Ghost ships, they will eat you. I was so amused when the narrator mentioned Commodore Matthew Perry, because I am a Naval History dork like that, and didn't expect to already know who was who in the story!
Then Islam was canceled.
Then I networked so hard, I made your momma cry. So, this trip to Victoria. Heh. My sister works in the hotel industry (so do I, back at home, but I'm a part time wage worker, and she gets a salary and a office and her own extension). I asked her about cheap hotels and transportation. The conference will be at the Mariott, which is loosely affiliated with the hotel we work at. Turns out the group rates for the conference will be the cheapest way to go for the Mariott. However, I don't have the kind of money it would take to stay at the damn place (130 a night? That's ridiculous). But since I'm a employee of the hotel, and will have a recent paystub at the time of the trip, I can get on the Clipper for $30, as opposed to the $117 it usually costs. Hellz yeah. Then I remembered that we have friends in Victoria! So as of right now, I have two options. I can stay in a hostel downtown for about $20 a night, and not have to pay for transportation around town. Or, I can stay with my mom's friends, and have to taxi it. I'm leaning toward the hostel, but if anyone wants to contribute, feel free.

Sunday...
Work, 12:45 to 6:45 ish.
Thought I was going to pass out for the first few hours, and my co-workers couldn't come cover me. Then I mysteriously got better?
We had an awesome impromtu Anthro party in the little lounge in front of the coffee stand I (wo)man in the library. AKA: there were 4 or 5 Anth majors studying, and I corrupted them because I was bored. We had a bitch-fest about professors, and discussed classes for next quarter. It looks like I'm going to be in Principles of Archaeology with quite a few people I know, which is nice.
Discovered a nifty opportunity - the Northwest Anthropological Conference. It's in Victoria, so I'm somewhat able to get there. More research is required.
The Peru trip has a facebook group! If you're unlucky enough to know me in Facebook land, my newsfeed has been spammed with "Robyn and *fill-in-the-blank-with-random-Peru-pers on-here* are now friends!". So, I've got a chance to meet all these people before I have to live with them for 6 weeks. That is a good thing. One of the guys had the lyrics to Firefly-Main Theme on his page! Undescribeable amounts of happy.
(I really need to catch up with these things, because I'm having problems keeping my continuity intact! You'll see with todays update. This is why I could never write a book. I would jump from A to Z to omega to Q and then confuse myself.)
(why do I not have an anthro tag? I'm majoring in the damn subject, you'd think I would talk about it once in a while...)

Day 7! A Week! Guys, I did a week!
Mar. 10th, 2008 | 10:58 pm
Um, Saturday. ..
Fuck, what did I do on Saturday?
Aha! I went to work from 10 - 4:30. Work sucked, par for the course. Everytime my co-worker left to pan fruit or go to lunch, or what have you, I got swamped with customers. ON A SATURDAY. When half the dorms are usually gone! But I closed super fast, so that was okay.
Then I came back to my sad little existence @ the dorm. Rachael had gone home for the weekend, so I played online games. Do not laugh at me, I'll whoop yer ass at scrabble. (Kid you not, put an X on the triple word score box between HE and E, so I got HEX and EX, both tripled.) Also, if anyone is interested, you can always hit me up on IM (or here, I'm ALWAYS on livejournal) and I can mop the floor with you. (I'm not really that good, Emilee beat me twice I think...)
Erm, and that's all folks. God, I need a life...

Not an update.
But HOLY FUCK.
Roundtrip airfare from Seattle to Peru is approx $1060.
I think it might be cheaper to drive! Also, there wouldn't be a scary 7 hour layover in Mexico City. Although, it's better than the flight from Seattle to Dallas to Miami to Lima. Because that's efficient.
Maybe I can ask Top and CDR if I can go through the military? This might be a viable solution, we will see.
But I'm giving myself ulcers at 3:30 (GUYS I ALMOST FORGOT THE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS THING) in the morning, so goodnight.

I iz geting a colage edukation.
Also, we sang classics like "I'm a little teapot" and "Itsy-Bitsy Spider" tonight.
I worked from 10-12 and 3:30-7:30. I had class inbetween, so I'm TIRED. And I have to get up at 7:30 in the morning to work some more. This job is so not worth it.
I will write a better update tomorrow, I promise.

Hmm. I need to do more interesting things if I'm going to write about my days in this.
I woke up late this morning and had to rush to class. I hate it when that happens. In my ideal world, I would have enough time to browse the news, shower, do my hair, maybe eat a little breakfast, and then mosey on out the door. In real life, I often hit the snooze button too many times, then rush to shower, put my hair up wet, and run out the door. I just like my sleep too much! I think, in the interests of becoming a better person, I will pursue this ideal way of waking up. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
Class was boring, nothing new there. Finalized my schedule for next quarter, as follows:
Anyway, see you tomorrow!

Day 2
Mar. 3rd, 2008 | 09:30 pm
mood:
sore
music: My Pandora.com - Nirvana Station
Well, today was interesting. The parents went home at 7 this morning, so I had to be up and functioning so they could pick up my little sister from my dorm room. On the plus side, they brought me breakfast. But I'm about ready to crash!
I had to ask my Underwater Archaeology professor if he gave out extra credit. He hasn't in the past, but it looks like I might be able to digitize slides for him for a little grade boost. He has to run it by the department head first though.
Rachael, my next door neighbor, dragged me to a band concert after we worked out.(we showered in between, of course.) It was a really good performance! A local high school concert band and their jazz band played, along with Eastern's concert and jazz band. I didn't like the jazz band's as much, but I think that's because I played in one. I can't help but analyze it, and it's no fun. But the concert bands were really amazing! I have a copy of the performance schedule for the rest of the quarter, courtesy of the Music Department, so I'll go check out more of these sorts of things!

It has been brought to my attention that perhaps I am ... standoffish? In an attempt to resolve this issue and reintroduce myself into the current socio-cultural structures (ha, anthropology ftw.), I'm making a... March 2nd resolution to post in this thing at least once a day. About what, who knows, but perhaps it will provide me with an impetus to go out and DO something. Other than check my friendslist, that is. That doesn't count.
Anyway, just thought you all should know! I will understand if you think it's annoying and unfriend me.
Side note: I'm bored at work in the coffee stand again. I really need to find a better job, with more pay.
